Rosso di Montalcino
Rosso di Montalcino is born of the same vines as Brunello, but without its big brother's long ageing. It's the wine that opened the way, in Italy, to "cascading" appellations: from a single vineyard, the estate chooses — at harvest or during ageing — what will become Brunello and what will be bottled as Rosso. DOC since 1983.
Sangiovese 100%, from the youngest parcels. Castelnuovo dell'Abate, 365 m, stony calcareous soil. Fermentation in stainless steel tank at controlled temperature. Fourteen months in 5 hl French oak casks, then four months in bottle.
In the glass — Intense ruby red with violet reflections. Fresh, fruity nose, on red fruit, cherry and violet. Firmly built on the palate with supple tannins, fine substance, good acidity, depth and persistence.
At the table — Red and white meats, game, medium-aged cheeses.
Serving — 16 to 18 °C, aerating the wine. 14.5% vol. 75 cl.
